A scarce anthology of ghost stories written by English author Oliver Onions, known in particular for his short stories and novels. Onions was recognised for his contributions to the ghost story genre, notable the collection 'Widdershins' and the widely anthologized story 'The Beckoning Fair One&apos. This particular collection features nineteen of Onions' tales, comprising those included in his previous three collections, published between 1911 and 1929: 'Widdershins', 'Ghosts in Daylight' and 'The Painted Face&apos. However, Onions is best known for his ghost stories, and his novella The Beckoning Fair One is often cited as one of the best in the psychological horror genre. With an empty blue bookplate to the front pastedown. In the publisher's original green cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Lightly rubbed to the boards and the spine, a little more so to the joints. Bumped to the head and tail of the spine, with a couple of closed tears at the head. A little bumped to the extremities. The rear hinge is starting, and rather tender. Internally, generally firmly bound, although the gutter is visible between pages 144 and 145, and the leaf of adverts to the rear is disbound.
